When is a filling needed?
A filling replaces tooth tissue lost through decay or damage. The dentist first assesses how much healthy tissue remains.
The treatment
The dentist removes the affected tissue and fills the space. Local anaesthesia is used when needed. The dentist then checks how your teeth meet when you bite.
The material
Composite is often used for tooth-coloured fillings. Your dentist will discuss the material suited to the location and size of the restoration.
Looking after your filling
Brush with fluoride toothpaste and clean between your teeth every day. Report persistent sensitivity or a filling that feels too high.
